Liberty Cap Mushroom, Psilocybe semilanceata, normally known as the liberty cap, is a type of growth that produces the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and baeocystin. It is both one of the most generally distributed psilocybin mushrooms in nature and one of the most potent. The mushrooms have an unmistakable conelike to chime shaped cap, up to 2.5 cm (1.0 in) in breadth, with a small nipple-like protrusion on the top. They are yellow to brown, secured with outspread furrows when sodden, and blur to a lighter tone as they develop. Their stripes tend to be thin and long, and have a similar tone or somewhat lighter than the cap. The gill attachment to the stipe is adnexed (barely joined), and they are initially cream-shaded before coloring purple as the spores mature. The spores are dim purplish-earthy colored in mass, ellipsoid in shape, and measure 10.5–15 by 6.5–8.5 micrometers.

The mushroom develops in grassland habitats, particularly wetter zones. However, unlike P. cubensis, the parasite doesn’t develop straightforwardly on waste; rather, it is saprobic animal groups that feed off rotting grassroots. It is broadly dispersed in the mild territories of the Northern Hemisphere, especially in Europe, and has been accounted for at times in calm regions of the Southern Hemisphere too. The soonest solid history of P. semilanceata intoxication goes back to 1799 in London, and during the 1960s the mushroom was the main European species affirmed to contain psilocybin.
